I sat down with TSP founder Nils Arend to talk about brand partnerships within running, the growth of the sport, and the future of the world’s most sought-after unsanctioned running event.
great read! but it also brings out, what tsp is in the end. A race for wealthy runners (mostly backed by other peoples (sponsors) money), who think of themselves as the "pinnacle" of running culture. it's elite in it's own form.
A lot of teams/runners definitely aren't wealthy. There are a lot of teams who have 12 runners (versus 6) who all pool their money and get a few sponsors to run and have that experience. There's definitely some elitism, which I don't disagree with! But I've seen both ends of the spectrum with TSP - influencers with a ton of money from brands backing them, and others who are just under the radar people from a local run club.
Takes a lot of integrity to hold the fort down the way he does. Super nice to know a little more. Would love to see global events.
thanks for reading!
Great piece!

What a great piece! I've been looking to read this article for 5 years, but no one has written it until now. Thank you Allison!
